Abstract

How is the war against Ukraine transforming the state-society complex in Russia? This paper draws attention to the organic crisis of the ruling bloc encompassing three dimensions: crisis of capital accumulation, crisis of labour reproduction, and crisis of legitimacy. Unable to reproduce the power configuration by eliciting the consent of subordinate groups, the ruling bloc resolves to violence in an attempt to overcome the crisis. The paper reintegrates war in the study of capitalism by exploring the manifestations of violence as enterprise, labour, and ideology.
