China’s Hydrogen Economy
Geoeconomics in Ecological Modernisation

Ecological modernisation is a key arena of current geo-economic competition. After Chinese companies have emerged as global leaders in the solar industry and electric mobility, Chinese companies are now also taking a leading role in the hydrogen economy. In this article, I examine the development of China’s hydrogen economy and argue that geo-economic motives are not only a key driver of its development; China’s state-capitalist hydrogen strategy also has the potential to shape the geo-economic structure of the global hydrogen economy in the long term.Downloads
