Abstract

Based on a life-course perspective oof the distribution of labour earnings, it is argued that age- and gender-specific stratification is still strong in Germany. New labour market entrants are sorted early in their occupational careers into different segments. Since the mid 1980s unemployment is shown to operate more forcefully as a worker discipline device.
