The socio-ecological crisis is getting worse. Climate change and the destruction of the ecological foundations of life continue unabated. Although social forces that effectively politicise the crisis are needed more urgently than ever in this situation, socio-ecological movements themselves are in crisis.
The current phase is characterised by repression and political setbacks as well as a necessary strategic reorientation. In the confrontation with the state and democracy, socio-ecological movements can open up new political horizons - provided that they understand their struggles not only as ecological or moral, but as profoundly political and social.
